This is easily the most famous pastry from Mallorca. Ensaimada is a spiral pastry made with flour eggs, water, sugar and sourdough. All sweet pastry basics so far. But what makes it unusual and oh-so-excellent is that the fat used is "saïm" (pork lard), rather than butter. Ideal for anyone who is lacto-intolerant! But tough luck for vegetarians.
Sopas Mallorquinas
One of the most traditional Mallorca food items you can find is sopas Mallorquinas. These are dense and hearty soups perfect for chilly days up in the Tramuntana Mountains.
Ingredients include slices of local bread, onion, garlic, tomatoes, cabbage and beans. Paprika will be in there too and you might also find pork, beef or botifarrón. The final flourish comes with a generous glug of local olive oil.
Cocarrois
You've probably heard of empanadas, delicious half-moon shaped stuffed pastries baked or fried across much of The Americas and Spain.
The cocarrois is Mallorca's local version, generally filled with a mix of vegetables, raisins and pine nuts.
Here's a delightful assembly alongside some coca slices topped with red pepper.
Things to do
Caves of Genova
Descend over 100 feet into the Caves of Genova. Explore the caves closest to Palma de Mallorca during this small-group guided tour. Learn about how the caves were naturally sculpted over time and see impressive domes, columns, water pools, and tunnels.
Boat trip explorer
Discover more of Mallorca's southeast coast than you likely could alone during this boat ride to Cala Es Marmols, a secluded beach accessible only by boat or a long and tiring walk. Along the way, admire the coves of Cala Llombards and Cala s'Almunia from a new vantage point, before enjoying free time to swim in the waters off Cala Es Marmols.
Wine tasting session
A welcome aperitif opens the door of our home and presents its history. Explore your passion for wines and cheeses in the cozy atmosphere of a typical Mallorcan store called "colmado". Appreciate this narrative journey through the vineyards of Mallorca enjoying at each step aromas, flavors, and textures that the master craftsmen of our land offer us. Wine, cheese and sobrasada tasting with its own identity achieved over time, with experience and with good work.
